Sneak Preview of Alan Drake's An American Citizen’s Guide to an Oil-Free Economy

Energy researcher Alan Drake is writing a "how-to" treatise aimed at weaning the U.S. from oil dependency. Alan's research has been extremely supportive of the Steel Interstate System.

Here is an advance look at Chapter 1 - Rail Electrification Can Reduce U.S. Oil Dependency. Alan says rail improvement is the most important thing we can do as a nation. He welcomes your feedback and discussion.

This is a very fine start on how to wean the nation for oil dependency.  And Alan does a good job showing why using natural gas to generate electricity to power railroads makes a lot more sense than T. Boone Pickens' proposal for the government to buy natural gas engines at $65,000 apiece for inter -city truckers.

I agree with this.   Excellent article and very interesting.   I would like to see even more examples.   There were some excellent comparison to European countries but then there could be more exact comparisons to what we are doing.

In general this is really fantastic work.   We really need to get Obama to read this!  We need to get everyone to read this! Makes complete sense.

We in Maine are have a proposal to use offshore wind to power a passenger rail service connecting our 2 largest cities.   It is a hard concept since folks in the oil gas and road paving industries are formidable foes, but we are starting to turn some heads.
